Written on the internet

Our weekly roundup of links we hope you’ll find interesting and useful.

  • If you only read one post this week, please make it this one: Moonrat of Editorial Ass telling you it’s better not to be published at all than to get published in an inferior way. She’s right. Impatience is never — never — the writer’s friend.
  • And then go read Moonrat’s post on fear of failure — because that fear is so often at the bottom of impatience. Our advice? Don’t be scared. Make your work the best it can be. Doing that will change your life, whether you are published or not. It will make you less afraid and less impatient and much more likely to succeed.
  • Now, on to writing! Jane Friedman talks at Writer’s Digest about opening your story.
  • Writer Rachel Ann Nunes gives guidance on building a plot.
  • Fiction Groupie offers tips on how to spot overwriting.
  • And when you’ve been patient, written well and sold your book — well, here’s a look at the cover design process in action.

If you have a link of interest to writers that you’d like to see in a roundup, please email us or leave a comment.
